I received some questions last week when I released the Film Market Consulting about MIPTV because let’s face it, Cannes Film Market is more ‘obvious’ but I do feel the MIP markets (MIPTV and MIPCOM) are often overlooked.
The deal with the MIP’s is that they are primarily TV markets BUT what most people don’t know is that feature films and docs do a brisk business there as well.
As a sales agent I used to love going to the MIP’s because they are less crowded versions of the film markets….more hospitable, less touristy, more professional, and more focused on actual ‘getting business done’ rather than blowing hot air around :)
So yeah, I love taking film projects to MIPTV and MIPCOM! I also take broadcast and digital projects and concepts and last year, had quite a productive time on these last two fronts…especially in terms of making new contacts and relationship building and yes, even selling something.
While Cannes Film Market may seem far off, MIPTV and it’s sister market MIPDOC are just two months away. Personally I’m beginning prep for that now and my sales agent network are already asking what I have for them to see and what client projects I can send them.
Have you been to MIP before and do you find it valuable as part of your diversified producer plan?
