I hope you had Happy Holidays no matter what you celebrated this past weekend! :)
Now talk about the home stretch…. I mean, we’ve got only a few days left of 2016. Yowza!
Over the last few days of down time I’ve been reviewing my year, listing out the highlights and lowlights, and what I’m going to be focusing on and doubling down on in 2017. Do you have a similar process you do for end of year?
One of the things I did differently this year in terms of planning is I chunked everything down by quarter, and at the beginning of each quarter listed a few big goals I wanted to accomplish at the end of that 90 day period. And wouldn’t you know it, by simply writing things down like that I actually accomplished over 50% of what I set out to do in each quarter, was no longer interested or changed my mind on about 40%, and was left with about 10% I didn’t get to. Not bad! So I’ll be replicating that system again in 2017 and refine it even more.
What’s In Store For 2017
In addition to a year end review, I also started going through my 2017 calendar and blocking out markets, shooting schedules, sales trips, and personal time. So far so good but….the first six months are already spoken for. How did that happen? Well very intentionally since it’s all stuff I’m very excited to be doing. (I’ll be sharing more details as I go along of course :)
For starters – in Q1 there’s a couple big markets and festivals. On the festival side there’s Sundance of course followed by Berlinale and SXSW. In terms of markets, there’s EFM and the beginning of MIPDOC/MIPTV (which bleeds into April).
All this to say, there’s plenty of opportunities for you to get out there, make some new key relationships, and create momentum that’ll carry you through the entire year. In other words, don’t wait till halfway through the year to start getting out there and forming new relationships and contacts….start Q1 and ride that train all the way through the year.
As for me, I already started looking at the EFM lists and strategizing for that. Same for MIPDOC and MIPTV. Even if you’re not planning on going to those markets, you can still still benefit greatly by ‘prepping’ without even going….
