OK – last ‘business’ day before Christmas! Is anyone out there working or is it just me? Ha!
I guess you can say that’s been my theme of 2017 – I probably sound like a broken record by now :)
But really, that’s what it comes down to. In fact, the most popular blog posts from the year were around packaging and finance plans.
In 2018 I’ll be doing monthly training webinars for FS members going behind the scenes on what I’m working on with clients and distilling all the best pieces of intel you need. If you’re not an FS member yet, get in before the end of the year so you can benefit from our professional community in 2018!
Using Location To Build Value
Another thing that’s often overlooked when building value in a project is location.
For example, I shot two international projects this year (one that spanned several countries) and let me tell you, just having ‘foreign’ locations as part of a production adds immense value. It’s like, the world becomes your ‘set’. The cherry on top can be any favorable tax advantages or rebates you can leverage, but seriously think about how you can use location to add value to even a low budget project.
Of course with that comes extra costs, so you’ll have to maybe cut back in other areas to leverage this technique but it can certainly be worth it.
I’m in the process right now of re-budgeting a project to be able to shoot 5 days in a world class location which will double the production value of our film. These are the strategies you want to be thinking about and one of things I do with clients who have appropriate projects. It’s part of what I call building a production foundation, which you can see is one of the key tenants of my EP Services.
I’d love to hear from any of you who have taken advantage of this strategy below – let’s discuss in the comments section below…
And for those of you that want to work one-on-one with me next year on your project, we’ve got 8 days left in the year to get you in on my 2018 slate.
If neither of those services are for you, that’s OK too – I’ll still be here documenting my experiences through my emails, blog posts, and podcasts. :)
